Apple iPad’s are being used in Disney World for FastTrak ticketing

The Walt Disney World Resort in Florida began using Apple’s iPad this week to enhance its FastPass ride ticketing system at the Magic Kingdom theme park.

Members who work at the Magic Kingdom have been assigned iPads, using the Apple’s touchscreen tablet to track data from RFID posts. The new RFID system scans select park-goers’ FastPass cards, if they have been selected to test the new system, as first reported by Inside the Magic.

When guests scan their RFID FastPass card, the data is sent to a Disney employee who is carrying an iPad,according to Fox News.

The test is currently restricted to a select group of Magic Kingdom guests. Disney has not posted a way for customers to sign up for the test, as the group of members were randomly selected.

The temporary RFID scanners can currently be seen around the park in the form of blue posts with the iconic Mickey Mouse logo design on top. The posts are expected to be removed once the test run is completed!

The use of iPads and RFID cards are part of Disney’s new ticketing system aims to make it faster and easier for park-goers to gain faster access to rides and other attractions. The new RFID cards will also serve as room keys for guests and will be used to trigger interactive features when exploring the parks in  Florida.

In its current form, the FastPass system simply issues a paper receipt to a customer, giving them a window of time in which they can come back and skip the lengthy lines to access an attraction.

Microsoft to have started “Xbox 720″ production

We have speculated and rumored about the 720, ever since the release of the xbox 360. Even though they have said that this will not be at E3 2012, the 720 is already in production.

Now, first, it won’t be called the 720. Due to Microsofts nature, we most likely wont know until the release date. It will most likely be released though with the Wii U and the PS4.

But what can Microsoft bring to the table? We have already seen the Wii U’s new tablet/controller design, but nothing has been released from the Sony or Microsoft labs yet.

The new consoles will most likely have beefed up hardware. Faster processors and more intensive graphics is a must, but otherwise, what else will there be?

The answer to that is…I don’t know. Quite simply, nothing much has been released, apart from the fact that they have gone into production stages. This could be as early as the prototype stage, or being able to ship them for this holiday season. Keep your eyes peeled for more about this.

iPhone 5 Rumors

So, the blogathon has commenced. Lets kick it off with something big. iPhone 5 rumors.

Since as WWDC 2012 is approaching, iPhone 5 rumors are being thrown around left, right and center. Here are a few for you.

The phones 3.5″ screen is may become a 4″ screen. Now this is something we heard about since the iPhone 4, but will the 5 make it reality? The 3.5″ screen has been the standard for a while now, and it a great screen size. But more screen real estate, without the phone being too big, is more than welcome.

This new iPhone may be 10mm taller than the 4S, to accomodate the larger screen and may also be 2mm thinner. Just to make it seem more sleek.

It may also have a metal and glass combination on the back, rather than the entire glass back. This will be going back to the original iPhones aesthetics.

Also, a new dock connector may be on this iPhone instead of the typical 30 pin dock connector. Now, this is something I think would be unlikley to happen. Apple have been using the 30 pin dock connector for a while now, so why change it?

Personally, I would like to see what changes they will bring with iOS 6. Since as a new iPhone is coming out, a new OS is bound to follow. Im not sure what other functionalitys they could bring. Possibly NFC technology, but who knows? We may just have to wait and find out.

Samsung Galaxy SIII to be “iPhone Killer”

Samsung have just announced the release date to the brand new Samsung galaxy S3. The phone will be the follower to the S2, and with more bang for your buck.

The phones new features are built in face tracking and voice control, which will allow a more natural OS. Their new S voice is their attempt at beating apples Siri. It will be quad core, be able to make NFC payments, and have a massive 4.8″ screen. Which begs the question, are phones getting more like computers. and will we see the laptop soon just become the tablet?

All I can say right now, is apple need to watch out. This device could be a serious contender, but I think the massive 4.8″ screen may put some people off.

Ice cream sandwich coming to a handset near you. Or is it?

Android 4.0 (ice cream sandwich) has been, lets be honest, a bit of a letdown. Very few devices have seen the 4.0 update, in fact, it was around 3% of all devices. However, Google are trying to rectify this.

If you are on the Verizon network, and own either a HTC rezound or Motorola Droid RAZR/RAZR MAXX, then you are in luck. The update shall be soon. I may also add, this is leaked news.

However, this hardly rectifys the probelm for around 96% of android users. Which is pretty much the entire market. So what are Google playing at?

I currently own a HTC wildfire S running Gingerbread (2.3.5). Now this is a very old version of the android operating system. All phones should be shipped with the most up to date version that device can have. You won’t see phones still coming out with windows phone 6 or iOS 4.

I would hope that anything below 3.0 is banished soon. Phones shouldn’t be shipping with this. Android really needs to get sorted out, and fast.

Samsung Galaxy SIII to be unveiled in early May

Samsung announced recently that it will launch the third-generation of its Galaxy S smartphone in London on 3 May. The Galaxy S III will launch at Samsung Mobile Unpacked in London and will go on sale the week after.

The launch of the latest incarnation of the Korean firm’s flagship device, which rumours had suggested would take place on 22 May, has been timed to capitalise on a big marketing push by the company over the lead up to the Olympic Games, which starts on 27 July.

Samsung will be hoping the launch of the handset will help build on the success it has had with the Galaxy range to date. The company was the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer last year on the back of strong sales of the Galaxy S II, which was released last April. Over 40 million Galaxy devices have been sold since the range was introduced in June 2010.

Although invitations have been sent out to journalists for a press briefing that will launch the new device, information on specifications has been less than forthcoming. The invites only feature a selection of blue blobs, the tagline “Come and meet the next Galaxy“, and details about the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event which the launch will be a part of.

Some commentators have suggested the phone could include a 4.6-inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen, a quad-core Exynos chipset processor, a 12 megapixel camera  and wireless charging, which all sounds very fancy.

Samsung will want to make the most out of its association with the Olympic Games. The firm’s current sponsorship deal with the International Olympics Committee runs out in 2016. It estimated that its campaign to support the 2008 Beijing Olympics doubled its market share in China.

A recent Samsung Mobile Unpacked app added to Google Play suggests that the phone will indeed be called the Galaxy S III, as there had been earlier rumours that it would have a different name. Samsung had previously not referred to it by that name, instead referring to it as the “next Galaxy”.

In separate Samsung news, the firm revealed that it will release at least one handset powered by Windows Phone 8 this year, possibly as soon as October. Samsung has released a handful of Windows Phone 7.5 Mango handsets in several regions around the world, but has not come up with a Microsoft-backed device for a little while now. The announcement came after HTC revealed that it will also look to avoid keeping all of its eggs in Google Android’s basket by releasing its own Windows Phone Apollo handset later this year.
